JOEY’S RULES

- I will not bite Trish’s feet while she’s trying to sleep
- I will not attempt to wake Trish up before 9 AM on the weekends/other days off.
- That double-sided opening in the wall is a fireplace, not a doorway.
- If that damn Chihuahua starts pestering me again, I have the right to show her what for. (I’m bigger than she is.)
- I will not play Kitty Bumper Cars around the potted plants.
- I know where my water bowl is, so I will refrain from drinking out of toilets and/or the humans’ glasses.
- I will not stalk and dive-bomb the dogs. (Except for the Chihuahua. She’s fair game.)
- I will stay away from crevices that I am not sure I can fit into.
- The book Trish is trying to read is not a toy for me to chew on.
- I will *share* the food dish with the other (older) kitty.
- Covered, closed windows are not places to sit.
- I do not have to show Trish that I can type too.

Elementary Education

Pro

• I can get with an age group I would probably like to work with.
• Better (read: later) start time.
• Easier to plan stuff?

Con

• Elementary teachers, according to the person I spoke with at the Uni, are not as in demand in this area as secondary teachers.
• Parent drama.
• Ten prerequisite classes to take.

Secondary Education – English

Pro

• I like the idea of being the Cool Geeky Teacher ™.
• Only five prerequisite classes to take as opposed to ten.
• I can assign all sorts of my favorite works of lit for the kids to read!
• Secondary Education teachers are more in demand here.

Con

• Not sure about the age group. Never really worked with that age group before, and I’m not sure how well I could handle their mouthiness.
• A different kind of parent drama?
• Earlier start time. (NB: I hate getting up early, OTOH an earlier start time also could be a pro, cos it means earlier end time!)
• Will have to brush up on all the parts of speech and stuff.
• Secondary Education English teachers are still not as in demand as Secondary Science or Math teachers.

I was given …

French: Ye gods, I miss speaking French. Wish I could do it more often, but there’s nobody around here who speaks it. My interest in the French language stems from watching Bon Voyage, Charlie Brown when I was a kid. It also stems from the fact that I always wanted to be different. Everybody took Spanish in high school, and I didn’t want to be like everybody else. There is, however, a logical reason as to why the majority of people around here study Spanish as a foreign language. That reason is because Spanish is probably THE most likely language you will hear spoken in Northwest Indiana aside from English.

Translation: One of the things I thought I might like to do with my English degree. Alas, we return once again to my lack of background in Spanish, so a fat lot of good it does me here in NWI. Dad thinks I should try to apply with the FBI or something, but would they hire somebody who has some formal education in a language, but very little real world experience?

Bubbly (personality wise, not the drink): I try to be. It sure helps out in the line of work I’m ending up in. heh.

Preschool: Having made the switch from preschool/daycare to public school, all I can say is wow. Of course, I had never worked with kids with special needs before, either …. and THAT in itself is something. I mean, preschool-age kids (4 and younger) are known to have short attention spans and to depend on a daily schedule/routine. This is no different in public school-age kids, to an extent, nor is it different in kids with special needs … yet there’s still something about working with them that really make it a challenge. It takes a special kind of person to be a teacher — it takes an even MORE special person to be a teacher to kids with special needs.

Twitter: My LJ posts of late seem to be more LoudTwitter posts than anything. heh. Twitter is fun, but does not always replace a proper blog … plus I much prefer posted comments as opposed to Twitter’s @reply system. :-/

Last winter, during the first ice storm of the year, Stepdad wrecked his car. He and Mum both work in retail, so they work CRAZY hours from Thanksgiving up through the first couple weeks of the new year, so it’s hard to juggle things around. Not to mention that, well, they *had to get a new car* in the midst of Xmas preparation. All in all, not fun.

Also, I spun my car out for the second winter in a row last year. Thankfully, all was OK — but I really don’t like doing that.

So please, keep this coming winter mild … and everyone (and their cars) safe. Please?

While this means that I seem to appear somewhat out of vogue at least from a Western standpoint — I don’t think tanning is as big in Asia as it is in the Americas or Europe — I feel that the trade-off is 1) I will not contract melanoma or some other disease from a nasty dirty tanning bed, and 2) I won’t look like a shoe when I’m 40. heh.

So what do you guys think about tanning? Do you do it? Would you do it if you could?

So I’m pondering exactly what direction I should take this blog in.  Any suggestions would be more than welcome.
