Found on my WordPress dashboard — Calorie Alert: Worst Drinks in America. If you’re a health nut and/or a big drinker (like me), or simply watching your calorie intake, this post is worth checking out. Apparently, Glaceau’s Vitamin Water is the worst “healthy” drink in terms of sugar and calories. I see a lot of people drinking Vitamin Water at the gym where I work out, and even without knowing this, I thought it didn’t make much sense. I usually drink plain water when working out. Oddly enough, I’ve been on a kick for Glaceau’s smartwater, which Jennifer Aniston has been pimping/posing for ads for in recent months. Click here to read a review of smartwater @ fitsugar!
There are a few Arizona drinks on the list as well, and I like a lot of their stuff — particularly their green teas. I’ve also really been liking Ocean Spray’s Cranergy, which doesn’t have all the cals & sugar, but tastes really good and does give you a nice buzz of energy (and I need quite a bit of energy in my line of work!).
One of my Stereotypically Not Feminine attributes is the fact that I am a car enthusiast. I would like to eventually learn how to drive a stick so that if I, by some miracle of fate, should ever come into a ridiculously gargantuan pile of money, I could buy & drive any one of these:
- Porsche Carrera 4S Cabriolet … that’d be the color I’d want, too! *prr*
- Audi R8 … gorgeous, ain’t she?
… or a Lamborghini Diablo — listen to that motor! Mmmmm, sexy!
Please tell me what you think! =D
I apparently have a penchant for reading about beheaded European queens as of late.
I’m currently reading “The Other Boleyn Girl” by Philippa Gregory. Being a fictional account of the real-life figure Mary Boleyn, sister to Anne and George — in particular, Mary’s rise to favor as the mistress of King Henry VIII of England, and the eventual replacement of Mary by Anne, who becomes Henry’s famously ill-fated second wife.
If you are looking for meticulously detailed historical accuracy in this novel, you will not find it. As I said, this is a fictional novel, so some historical liberties certainly had to be taken for the sake of general public interest as well as for that of the storyline. If you are interested in the facts, there are several books and other means of research through which to find them.
Personally, I had been under the impression that the personage of Mary Boleyn was herself fictional, and that this novel was merely a ‘what-if’ story — until I found out otherwise on Wikipedia. *shrug* Proves what a clueless dork I am, doesn’t it?
In any case, I was persuaded to read the novel in the wake of the recent film adaptation, starring Scarlett Johansson as Mary and Natalie Portman as Anne. I haven’t yet seen the film — by now, I’ll have to wait till it’s available to buy/rent — but I found the novel to be quite fun to read, and definitely worth checking out if you enjoy stories of intrigue, sibling rivalry, greed, and power.
I’m also reading “Marie Antoinette: The Journey” by Antonia Fraser — a bio of the “last queen of France” that contains a bit more historical fact, and is nonetheless just as interesting for its depiction of the power plays used by noble families to maintain and/or elevate their status, and how much women really were pawns in it. This, incidentally, also apparently spurned the 2006 film adaptation, which starred Kirsten Dunst as Marie.
I just heard a new song from THE B-52S on the radio yesterday morning! I’ve been a fan of their music since I was probably 7 years old, so needless to say, I was stoked! =D Le squee! It’s called “Funplex”, and you can have a listen here:
This is an ad for Ugly Mug Coffee out of Tennessee. I find it amusing, cos the early shift I work ought to indicate that I am in fact a “morning person”, but the truth is that I’m so totally NOT. heh. Filched from Andrea — forgive me! Couldn’t help myself! *blush*

I really need to try some of this coffee!
Love ‘im.

Kudos to Emma Thompson for standing up to Hollywood weight standards! Apparently, she threatened to pull out of a movie if Miramax continued to force her co-star, Hayley Atwell, to lose weight. Here is an account of the happenings according to Hayley:
“I went round to Emma’s one night and she was getting very angry that I wasn’t eating all the food she was giving me. I told her why and she hit the roof.”
The next day, Thompson called the film’s producers and made her threat to leave. Not wanting to lose Thompson, Miramax relented.
I just gotta say — Emma, you go, girl!
We had to evacuate the building at work today, because the building owner suspected that we had a gas leak. :-/ They called out the gas company to check everything out, and after an hour or two, we were cleared to come back into the building.
On the positive side, it was Presidents’ Day (and consequently, we had a pretty low count) — nobody lost any of their children, the children and the teachers all handled it as brilliantly as could be expected, we managed to keep everyone safe and warm, and the building did not explode. ahaha.
On the other side … it was more than enough excitement for one day. *flop* Yeesh.
